Introduction: The classsification and communication of medical orders in hospitals are important sub-processes for the prevention or management of medication errors. Despite the evidence, there are no conclusive data detailing interventions in university hospitals, their comparative results, use safety or processes to implement them.
Objective: To synthesize the available evidence on the implementation of intervention strategies for the improvement of the processes of classification and communication of orders in university hospitals.
Methods: A systematic review of the literature was conducted in the databases MEDLINE (PubMed), EMBASE, The Cochrane Library, LILACS and additional resources such as Google Scholar. Data synthesis was carried out through the description of the intervention, effectiveness, safety and implementation results.
Conclusions: The interventions identified include novel technologies and traditional modalities that partly respond to the objectives of prevention and management of medical errors in the sub-processes analyzed in university hospitals, but lead to the need to deepen the analysis for the implementation, use and innovation in the area.
