Abstract

Introduction: Hair biofortifier is a hydroalcoholic extract of human placenta that stimulates hair growth. The product has presented problems in the scaling process due to the fact that it is not adequately filtered, thus affecting the organoleptic characteristics and microbiological values.

Objective: To modify the production process of the hair biofortifier to achieve the filtration of the product through filtering plates.

Methods: The extracting solvent was modified. Purified water was replaced by saline solution (NaCl 0.043mol. L-1). Six laboratory batches were made and characterized by physicochemical tests such as organoleptic characteristics, pH, density, alcohol percentage and protein determination. An industrial batch was prepared using the same methodology as the batches prepared in the laboratory. It was distilled through a filter press equipped with 24.7 micron Italian cellulose filter plates.

Results: With the salt extraction, the colloidal particles that were in suspension precipitated and were able to decant, which facilitated the filtration process. In addition, the salt helped to solubilize the proteins, so that higher values were obtained compared to the aqueous extraction. Both in the six batches carried out at laboratory and industrial levels, a product was obtained that complies with the organoleptic characteristics and microbiological parameters.

Conclusions: The extraction process of the hair biofortifier was modified and a product that complies with all the quality parameters was obtained. The protein values of the product were increased.
