Introduction: Post-acute COVID-19 syndrome is a set of signs and symptoms that develop during or after clearance of SARS-CoV-2 virus and continue for more than 12 weeks and are not explained by an alternative diagnosis.
Objective: To describe the molecular mechanism involved in respiratory, cardiovascular and neurological dysfunctions and their clinical manifestations.
Methods: A literature review of articles published from 2020 to 2022 was performed. PubMed/Medline, SciELO and Google Scholar databases were consulted, various Spanish and English language descriptors were used.
Conclusions: Patients could present COVID-19 post-acute syndrome six months after recovery. The most relevant clinical manifestations are persistent respiratory dysfunction, cardiovascular and neurological dysfunction.
